NOTICE TO CONSULTING ENGINEERS & LAND SURVEYORS

Weekly Drainage Board Meetings

On Tuesday, January 3, 2006, The Vanderburgh County Commissioners decided to hold Drainage Board meetings every week rather than monthly as was customary.

The Commissioners’ decision to hold weekly Drainage Board meetings is based on their desire for a more speedy review and processing of street and drainage plans to expedite residential and commercial development in Vanderburgh County.

Drainage Board meetings will commence immediately following the regular County Commissioners' meetings which start at 3:30 p.m. every Tuesday. That means the Drainage Board meetings usually will begin at or about 4 p.m. in the City Council Hearing Room 301, Civic Center Complex, Evansville, Indiana.

Anyone who has business with the Drainage Board should make arrangements to attend and arrive at the meeting before the proceedings commence.

How It Will Work

As the Drainage Board’s technical advisor, the County Surveyor reviews drainage plans and recommends their approval by the Board comprised of the three County Commissioners. The Drainage Board and Commissioners require agendas submitted for their meetings no later than noon Thursday prior to the Tuesday meetings.

Whenever sufficient business exists to warrant a Drainage Board meeting, the County Surveyor will post a FINAL agenda at noon Thursday prior to the meeting to be held the following Tuesday. Items not appearing on the agenda have little chance of receiving a recommendation to approve.

If there is not sufficient business to warrant a Drainage Board meeting, no new agenda will be posted, and the County Surveyor will advise the Drainage Board to postpone their meeting on the following Tuesday.

The County Surveyor publishes the Drainage Board agenda by noon Friday on his Web site at www.vanderburghsurveyor.com. Hard copy of the agenda may be received FAX by request to Ms. Linda Freeman at 812-435-5211.

Plan Submittal Deadline

The County Drainage Code sets a plan submittal deadline two weeks prior to the Drainage Board meeting. However, most plans can be reviewed in a shorter period IF workload allows AND the plans truly are compliant with code and ready to approve.

Therefore, if a plan is submitted by end of business day on a Wednesday, the plan preparer may reasonably assume the plan will appear on the Drainage Board agenda posted at noon, Thursday, one week later, thereby shortening the customary review and approval process by about two weeks.

The schedule proposed above is tentative and may be revised as time allows. Please work with the County Surveyor on this new schedule, and hopefully we can streamline the process even more.
